Comfy Cozy Spot

We used to have a soft ottoman that we would push In the corner of our couch for movie nights. We called it the Comfy Cozy spot. Q was so bummed when we traded it for a normal “hard” coffee table. We’re getting ready to completely re-do our family room - but not until January. I figured I’d buy another soft ottoman until then as a special surprise for Q. Only Q would be so excited about a piece of furniture as a special surprise.

And what do you do with an old coffee table? Make bunk beds of course!

Running Club

Another Friday, another running club. This week, it was more of a “saunter club.” That’s ok though- i come
For the chit chat. It’s amazing how much they open up when you really focus on them.

Check out all the bling on Q’s arms. I love how sentimental he is. You can learn so much about him by knowing what’s on his wrists. Here’s the inventory:

Medical ID bracelet: he has juvenile diabetes. As much as I hate to admit it- this impacts his life so very much.

Black “Pura Vida” bracelet with a “P” charm for the brand. He found this at the Hyatt and bought one for himself and PKM3 because of the “P” - he was so bummed that they didn’t have another one for Bubba because “he has the same name too.”

Bead bracelet: he keeps EVERYTHING. Apparently he made this is Kinder and it changes colors in the sun. He is so curious how that happens which I love. What I love even
More though is that  he was so excited to show all his old kinder buddies because he was sure they would want to go and find their bracelets too. He’s not afraid to be a trend setter.

Blue Puma Charm: this isn’t a bracelet, it’s a keychain but it fits on his wrist because he’s so tiny. I love this for two reasons: 1. Apparently some kids at school have been making fun of him for being so little. We’ve been talking a lot about this lately. I told him that I absolutely love that he’s so little because it means I can still hold him. When he was able to fit this on his wrist, he announced that this was another reason why it was good to be little. And 2: Q isn’t a runner but he is fiercely competitive. When he found out that he would earn charms for laps, he was determined to get up early and work for that reward. He will also kelp these charms forever. Come to think of it, we might have a tiny hoarder on our hands.

Stopped in the middle of lap 3 for some “Sharks and Minnis” and push-ups.

Baby legs

If you don’t cross your chubby legs while eating, are you even a baby?

Meet Oatmeal

Oatmeal is Kap’s new little lovey. This is new for us- though Q and Isla have dozens (maybe hundreds) of stuffies and counting, they’ve never had that “special” one. Q had his fingers and Isla had me. I thought we could try this out for Kap so he has something to give him comfort when I’m not there. So far, he seems into it- we shall see...

The shirt with a bow

On Sunday, we pick out clothes for the entire week for the big kids. We have these cool cubbies in their closest that holds their outfits- socks and all. While we were doing this for this week, Isla announced that she would not be wearing any skirts or dresses this week. Coming from the girl who has worn 2, even 3 dresses/skirts at the same time, this is a big deal. Part of me was afraid that she was growing up and moving away from her extravagant style that we’ve all come to love (not to mention the unfortunate funeral we would have to have for 95% of her clothes) but it’s her choice so I sucked up my tears and said ok.

Well... that lasted one day (thank God!). On Tuesday morning, she decided that she wanted a shirt with a bow. It took awhile to figure out what she meant but we finally got there by taking her biggest shirt (this awful T from her school’s summer program), tying it in a knot and adding a headband. She didn’t think she had enough color so she went on a search for her most colorful bottoms which happens to be this skirt I just bought her and would not be thrilled to toss quite yet. She also picked out a huge bright bow which I took the liberty of adding to a side pony that I didn’t tell her about ;). Sorry, it’s blocked in the pic below by the fluff balls (?) on her head.

We got downstairs and she asked for a picture with her “headbones” and iPad- so weird but where do you draw the line with an outfit like this?!

Surprise Special Time

The stars aligned and I was able to sneak Isla away for some much needed 1X1 time. She got an ice cream sandwich from Cravory while I had fish tacos. And then she had some rice because that goes with cookies??

Two Isla’s and some letters

I was so excited to see Isla’s letter work! Isn’t she doing great?!

Also, because there are two Islas in her class, she needs to put her last initial after her name. She hasn’t learned about spaces yet so she has been writing Islam on all of her papers. Haha!! The teachers said that they will let her be Isla and the other Isla will be Isla A for now.

Carpool

We’ve been following our neighbors Kate and Carol to school every morning over a year now. Their mom and I finally realized that we should probably take turns taking the kids to school. Today was the first day that Q went to school with them. Like everything as they grow up, it was bittersweet. He did great and is already asking when he can go in their car again.

As always, Isla was there to cheer him on....

Sit-ins

When the Bigs are at school, you have to rely on your stuffed friends to get you through tummy time...

Tennis?

The outfits, the lollipops, the goofy pics- did any tennis actually happen yesterday? Questionable for sure...

Mystery Reader

After running club with Q this morning, I took Isla to school and hid in the parent lounge so I could surprise her as the inaugural Mystery Reader.

Isla made the cutest face when she saw it was me. I had three books for her to choose from and she chose Snatchabook. The class was so fun and well behaved! I can’t wait to do it again!!
